Also the textures in TR are more consistant IMO as U4 has nice textures but the anisotropic filtering is awful. Also uncharted is much more linear than TR so the console can manage to put out such good visuals and the fact that its an exclusive means the devs only have to optimise it for 1 platform. I think the snowy areas of Rise maybe don't look as good as i personally don't really like the snow, but in syria and geothermal valley rise definatly looks better, especially at 4k ultra. Full 4k, higher res textures (requieres 6gb vram), better res shadows, better lighting, better AO (VXAO), better hair effects, better reflections etc. I dunno, scenario writers? Leaders? I don't know who to blame for this.Rise looks better mate. I just hope whatever lies in the future for the TR series, they hire some better. I barely remember their names.īut I think the gameplay is strong enough to carry me through the game. They can't (and this goes throughout the series sadly) combine story with gameplay at all. You could have done the fights gradually and with more saving of others but it's like they want the horror of killing someone but also want fun gun fights. I also find it hilarious that Lara kills her first man and is in shock and seconds later, she is murdering a dozen other people in gameplay. Like I get you want her to suffer and toughen her up but pacing. In the first 15min of the game, Lara falls off a ship, nearly drowns, get beaten and captured and is hung upside down, possibly gets burned, gets impaled, falls several times, is starving and is freezing in the rain. But based on sales and the fact TR'13 exists, it seems I'm an outlier in this.Īm playing it on my deck right now and it is good but I don't like the pacing, story and writing. When I have a hankering for Tomb Raider, I play Anniversary. However, I think Tomb Raider: Anniversary was a better revival of the Tomb Raider IP because like Mario 64, it retained enough of the spirit and feel of the original to feel authentic. Other than the silly multiplayer mode, I think it's an excellent game. It's more equivalent to Super Mario 64 compared to the original Super Mario Bros., though I'd argue Mario 64 did a better job because it retained the feel and magic of its predecessor.Īgain, I don't think TR'13 is a bad game. Kart games are a completely different genre, whereas Tomb Raider '13 is attempting to reboot and update the original genre for the then-modern age. and Mario Kart is also a bit disingenuous. I'm not saying that people aren't allowed to like them, but simply that I do not and wish game developers would purge them from the tool box for good. Giving a cinematic and then randomly forcing me to mash a button midway through is jarring and in my opinion creatively uninspired. Either let me as the player have complete control, or give me a cinematic. With regards to the QTEs, I simply find them to be a garbage mechanic.
